Happy New Year to Team Pequot!
We are excited to announce that registration is OPEN for Summer 2021! Please register at www.teampequot.com by clicking the top right blue "Register" button on desktop, or by tapping the upper-left menu icon and then tapping “Register” on mobile.
Dates, rates, and FAQ are all on the www.teampequot.com site, but as always, please let us know if you have any questions.
Before we get to the good stuff, let’s talk about the, um, elephant in the room… At this time, we cannot possibly predict what summer will look like with regard to Covid. We are assuming, as a placeholder, that all 2020 Covid-related policies will remain in place. We are as eager as you are for some return to “normalcy,” and if that’s the case, we will adapt our policies to fit whatever best practices will be in June. There’s more detail on this on our website, and we’ll update that page as conditions allow. Needless to say, we want our program to be as safe as it was in 2020 -- and at least as much fun!
Now some cool stuff! We have two more Open Skiffs coming to add to our fleet, and with six skiffs, we’ll have critical mass for awesome skiff classes. We have a new RIB arriving as well, as we say farewell to one of our oldest Whalers (circa 1979… that boat has served us remarkably!). Finally, in a matter of days, a long-awaited refresh to the Junior Clubhouse will begin. We’ll post photos to our Instagram account, so follow us at @teampequot.
And, most importantly, we are psyched to welcome back most of our amazing 2020 coaching team! Maggie Costikyan will be leading the team as Head Coach, and also returning will be Ben Craine, Brian Krawiec, Ellie Pieper, and Niall Sheridan. We welcome two new instructors: Ally Triano and Hannah Nightingale. Finally, we may see a bit of Carly Costikyan; due to her school’s Covid policies, she’ll be in the classroom this summer (bummer), but may pay a visit now and then. Profiles of our coaching team are posted to our website.
We can’t wait for warmer weather and for days on the water! In the meantime, stay safe, stay well, and as always, reach out if we can lend a helping hand.
Vanessa, Treef, and Chris

Our 96th year of sailing instruction began with a "Virtual" Commissioning, broadcast on Zoom live, on Sunday, June 21, 2020 at 1730 hours, with a blessing by the Revered Peggy Hodgkins, remarks by Vice Commodore Chuck Murphy, and a ceremony officiated by Junior Commodore William Donovan with his officers Tucker Ballou, Tyler Nash, and Andrew Wagner. And, as of Monday morning, June 22, we are sailing!

We are encouraged that we will be returning to some semblance of normalcy, and like everyone no doubt, we are looking forward to the end of April showers and to May flowers.
It's our intention, and with the internal support from the board of governors of Pequot Yacht Club and with the external support of the Junior Sailing Association of Long Island Sound, that our program will be run as planned this summer. However, because we know that there are more questions than answers today, we will continue our extension of our early registration discount to May 20. (Why May 20? you might ask. Well, that's a date that Governor Lamont has talked about to potentially reopen our state, so it's a date very much in our minds!)
And -- please note -- if by reasons beyond our control, the program must be cancelled, registration fees will, of course, be refunded in full.
If you've been on the fence with summer plans, please register! We've had fantastic support from many families, and classes are filling quickly.
Our next event -- the May 4 Parent Orientation -- is, of course, not happening as usual. We are exploring options to either conduct this virtually, or to postpone it until there is clarity whether we can gather in person. At this meeting, we traditionally hand out the program t-shirts. Obviously, that cannot be done virtually, but rest assured, this summer's t-shirts will be given out as soon as possible! (And they are cool, too...!)
More than a few sailors have compared this "stay at home" or "shelter in place" time to an offshore race (except in this race, you can get groceries and have a hot shower!). It's an apt metaphor. Offshore, you're isolated with only the crewmates on your boat, yet you know that others are sailing to the same destination, perhaps having similar conversations aboard their vessels. While you can't see the finish line, you know you're making progress towards it, but it's a sailboat, after all, and oftentimes you are not making progress directly at your goal as you deal with the variables of weather, wind and waves. Sailors are uniquely trained to adapt to these circumstances.
Likewise, we will adapt our program to whatever lays ahead, and we look forward to a summer of sailing. As always, please reach out with any questions, or if you need a helping hand.

While we anxiously wait for consistently warmer weather, we continue to plan for Team Pequot's 96th year of junior sailing!
First and foremost, given the disruption to everyone's lives due to the current headlines, we've extended our early registration discount deadline to March 31st, recognizing that many people have other things on their minds now.
What we're thinking about, other than the headlines? Click the accordian below...

Thank you all for a fun, safe and exciting season, both on and off the water. It's hard to believe that it's only been about a month since our season-end Awards Banquet. We are starting to plan for next year, but before we give you a few teasers for the 2020 season, some highlights from summer 2019:
